Teng Chamchumrus
After years of stress and somersaulting
through graduate school and the corporate world, I solidly
landed on a yoga mat. I had hoped that yoga was a solution
that could help me manage my stress, loosen my stiff hamstrings
and gain enough flexibility to touch my toes. Little did I
know that I had just begun a personal journey of self discovery
- where I learned to accept my own physical, mental and spiritual
reality and find balance in my daily life. Through yoga, I
have become better at taking care of myself and as a result,
better at fulfilling my day-to-day commitments. And touching
my toes? You know, it is no longer important.
I primarily practice Vinyasa or
Flow Yoga, a style of yoga known for dynamic, meditative
and creative sequences of poses. For me, the emphasis on
motion mimics life's flow. Vinyasa practice helps me be
more mindful not only of my presence at a point in time
but also of my transition from one point to the next. It
also borrows from other yoga disciplines such as Hatha,
Ashtanga, and Iyengar. Through Vinyasa's inclusive perspective,
I believe that each of us will be able to tailor yoga to
our individual needs and create our own personal journeys.
As a yoga teacher, I enjoy helping others find their own
path and access the benefits of yoga practice.
Comments from Teng's students:
“I always really enjoy Teng's Vinyasa class. Teng always brings a positive energy and encourages everyone to do their own personal best. Overall, the class is both energizing and relaxing and is a perfect escape at the end of a busy day!” ~ Juliana
“While I've practised yoga for a few years now, none of the classes I've taken compare to the sanctuary Teng creates each week. After his class I feel challenged, refreshed, and renewed. And I am grateful for the positive energy that Teng fosters in his class and students.” ~ Midori
“I started yoga and attended Teng's class to improve my flexibility and strength. His teaching style and approach made yoga very accessible. Not only have I seen improvements in my physical health, I have also felt lower stress levels. I wholeheartedly recommend Teng to everyone of my friends.” ~ Matt
“I can certainly attest to the wonders of Mr. T's class. I've had a really tumultuous year. Since I moved back to Canada from the UK I found stability and comfort and even a sense of peace in Teng's weekly Thursday night yoga class. It was one of only a few constants in my changing life. I was a total novice. But Teng provided a warm welcoming atmosphere in which to learn the basic principles of yoga. I didn't feel intimidated by my ignorance. I found humour as well as comradeship. I could laugh at my own clumsiness and inability to balance on one foot. And with his help and guidance, I think I've improved.” ~ Sally
