Shelly Rowen I first became
interested in yoga when I was about 14 years old. I would
watch "Lilias! Yoga and You" on PBS after school.
I would try some of the poses and it was fun, but mostly I
think I was fascinated by the pace - the quiet, flowing quality
of the asanas and by Lilias herself - her calm and tranquil
energy.
Many
years and many classes later I came to practice at Esther
Myer's Studio. My first impression of Esther and the class
was that this was the right practice and the right teacher
for me. I completed my advanced teacher training there in
2003. My practice and my teaching continue to be deeply
influenced by Esther Myers and Esther's teacher Vanda Scaravelli.
Recently
I have become interested in Vipassana, or Mindfulness Meditation,
a very simple and effective practice. This has also influenced
my yoga practice and teaching. My classes combine elements
of asana, pranayama and meditation.
Yoga
is for everyone and there is a practice for everyone. I
encourage students to practice mindfully and to develop
their own practice, one that suits their needs, temperament,
body type and lifestyle.
Yoga
is a vast and fascinating subject and I continue to be deeply
interested in all that it has to offer.
