Rosanne McCollum, CYT
Namaste,
I have been practicing and teaching yoga for about 10 years, and continue to study the many aspects of this vast science with deep fascination. I completed Yoga Teacher Certification in 2004 with Sangita Morgan, a close student of Amrit Desai (Kripalu Yoga). Some of my favorite teachers have been Sri Dharma Mitra, Yogi Vishvketu and through words and spirit Paramahansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi, as well as many great Toronto teachers.

Yoga began for me as something that felt really right, as if every cell in my body and every part of my being had always wanted this. Through physical and tangible experience, deeper truths began to arise that have effected my whole life, giving me more patience, serenity, love, endurance for all of life's challenges, and the wisdom behind it all that comes from ancient masters whose achievements are phenomenal. It did not give me the ability to write a short sentence!

Now, I have come to practice, study and teach: hatha yoga, raja yoga, kundalini, bhakti philosophy and various meditations.

I have received two very special blessings (besides my children Siobhan and Keava and my hubby Dean). The first was in 2004 when I took initiation into the sound and light meditation of Sant Mat under Sant Thakhar Singh, a fully Self-Realized Master. This very potent meditation has given me direct experience of the soul and a heavenly guide. I am eternally grateful.

The second was recently when I received initiation into Kriya Yoga, the exhalted path of Paramahansa Yogananda in a lineage going back to Mahavatar Babaji. I had studied Kriya Yoga by correspondence but initiation was a real gift, handed down in an unbroken chain of masters, in person, by Brahmachari Vidyananda. I am overjoyed to be given this technique (by the transfer of energy and which I cannot teach). It is possible to achieve enlightenment in this lifetime on this path.

So I bring this joy within to class.

What a class is like
You could expect to do some tuning in and breathing practices, energy control, mudras and bandhas, and then stand for sun salutations, do a bunch of interesting poses which can be challenging - all connected by the breath, and wind down to relaxation and usually a short meditation.

I bow to the light in you,
Rosanne

"Rosanne, your class has inspired me; I look forward to my Tuesday evening and Saturday morning yoga classes week after week. I love that the class combines breath work, asanas and meditation and introduces me to new postures, as well as bringing in familiar ones. You are always open to suggestions and requests, and I can see that you want your class to be as good as it can be for each and every one of your students. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your approach, your kindness and your /flexibility/!" - Melanie B.

"Just walking into her presence, I feel relieved of any suffering I may be carrying around. I feel nurtured, stretched and loved. I leave every class with a sense of calmness and I feel ready to start the day, and bring that heart openness to others." - Cheryl B.
