Welcome to Brahmananda Yoga Centre. Here are a few things you should know to enhance your practice of Yoga.

Please:

Remove your shoes at the door and practice in your bare feet.

Don’t forget to turn your cell phone off.

Practice on an empty stomach (unless a specific condition prevents this).

Keep water bottles, eyeglasses, purses, knapsacks, etc. off to the side.

Be early to class. Constantly entering class late is very disruptive and disrespectful to others. If you do arrive a few minutes late, come in quietly.

For hygienic reasons bring your own mat. If you use one of BYC’s mats, please clean it with the supplies provided at the end of class.

Wear comfortable clothing.

Ask questions about anything that’s not clear to you.

Refrain from wearing perfume or strong essential oils. Consider your personal hygiene for everyone’s comfort.

If you have a health issue (illness, injury or medical condition) please notify your instructor before class.

Let go of the competitive mind-set. Yoga is non-competitive.

Be kind to yourself by accepting where you are. It’s okay to come out of a pose before a teacher says to. Yoga is not about “no pain, no gain”. Rest sometimes. Do what you can.

Experience and flexibility are not required to practice yoga. Yoga is for everyone.

Stay for the entire class. If you have to leave early let the teacher know beforehand and leave before final relaxation.

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “I bow to you.”
